CATHETER DIRECTED THROMBOLYSIS: Here a catheter is placed near the clot in the vein and thrombolytic drug is infused over a period of time. This causes lysis of the clot thus clearing the vein. This is most suitable for acute condition. Thrombosis preferably less than 48 hour (less than 7 days). It fails in chronic thrombosis.
CONSERVATIVE TREATMENT: Here the patient is given anticoagulant drugs for certain period of time, clot dissolved slowly and new clot formation does not occur.
ASPIRATION THROMBECTOMY: Here specialized catheter is used to dissolve and suck the clots from the veins. Its success rate may vary up to 60%, is single sitting complete treatment of the DVT.
DVT is a condition where clot formation occur in deep veins of the legs. It can occur in hypercoagulable state of the patient like prolonged immobilization, after big surgery, spontaneous , trauma etc.
